Dennis J. Toms Jr. , is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPCA) and a National Certified Counselor through the state of North Carolina. Dennis earned his Bachelors degree in Sociology at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in 2012 and received his Masters of Arts in Education Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of North Carolina at Pembroke in 2016.
Dennis works with clients ranging from kids to adults. Dennis views the therapeutic relationship with his clients as a collaborative effort to increase client self-awareness, motivation, internal growth, and peace in the mist of life's adversities. Dennis utilizes an integrative style which leads with the theory of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy , while incorporating tenets of Gestalt and Existential therapy. Dennis focuses on making connections between client's thoughts, feelings, and actions; while re-framing perceptions or narratives. Dennis believes in empowering the client to restructure irrational thinking while providing clients with new skills to mold a new life. It is Dennis's ultimate goal to "help clients help themselves" and modified negative self-dialogue that produces lingering issues of conflicts within emotions and behaviors.
